If you’re looking to buy electrical parts for your next project, you might have some questions. Electrical components are used all over the world, in residential, industrial and commercial environments. But what are they doing, how do they work, and how can they benefit your projects? This article will walk through the basics of electrical components for residential, industrial and commercial use.

What are electrical components, and what do they do?

Electrical components are devices that are designed to control or regulate electricity. They can be used for a variety of purposes, from heating to light and can be found in a variety of settings. Electrical components can be found in homes, schools, and businesses.

What is a Relay? A relay is used to connect two or more devices, such as controlling a fan. A basic component, relays only require two connections and are inexpensive to obtain. Just one is needed for a simple light switch, and three are needed for a complicated circuit. The relay will open/close based on the voltage applied across it’s contacts when a voltage between 1.5V and 4.5V is applied across the switch contacts. Whether you need one relay for a light switch or three with a voltage divider, they can be found at Power Point Electrical. Relays can be small, like a standard coin cell or a more complex relays like the TL731 addressable logic chip.

Some other types of electrical components?

There are many different types of electrical components. The most common ones are resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, LEDs, transistors, and integrated circuits.

Resistors are the most basic one and they are used to limit the flow of electrical current in a circuit. Capacitors are used to store energy in an electric field. Inductors are used to transport a current from one place to another. Finally, diodes are used to connect two points in a circuit. There are different types of resistors. When the resistance is increased, the coil bends at a larger radius until it reaches a final value. Since the coil now contains more iron, more current is able to pass through it. A simple resistor Capacitors, on the other hand, are made of two interconnected plates. When the voltage across is increased, the plates close together forming a hollow tube. This tube readily stores and protects a charge. It isn’t necessary for the voltage to increase as the first plate acts as its own voltage divider. Once the current reaches the second plate opens and gives the charge to the new current. That’s how capacitors work.

Inductors, on the other hand, lay a long path of conductors between two points in a circuit. If power is needed from both sides of the conductor (called an intermediary conductor), the inductor is the wire which allows that current to pass. Like a switch, it’s connected to the two ends of the inductor by a resistor. Also like a switch, the intermediate conductor connects the two ends of the inductor to the other two ends by another resistor. A diod (Latin for two-way-diode) uses two conductors on the outside and two on the inside to create a voltage across a small gap between them. This creates an off voltage which can be sent through a wire as a high level alternating current.
